Student Marinist Economc Research Fellows Program
Launched at the UD SBA in 2025, the SMERF program pairs students with non-profit partners and SBA faculty. Fellows conduct policy-oriented background research and data analysis to support local nonprofits in working toward the Common Good. Fellows engage with faculty mentors to both
Rigorously evaluate program performance and resource allocation within local organizations, and
Learn to develop and apply Catholic Social Teaching's forms of social analysis to the moral and structural challenges driving many problems in the social world.
The work done by the Marianist Economics Research Fellows is deployed in real-world decision making by partnering organizations, engaging in work to address sources of poverty and injustice.

Minimum Qualifications:
Currently enrolled as sophomore, junior, or senior undergraduate student at UD.
Completed ECO 203 or equivalent introductory economics class
Basic understanding of economic models
Proficiency in Excel
Organized with strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in data collection and documentation
Able to work independently and with a team to meet deadlines
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiar with statistics/econometric modeling and optimization (e.g., completion of Eco 441, 410, or other econometrics course)
Prior experience with a statistical software package (e.g., R, Stata, or SAS)
Prior experience with research, data visualization, or literature review
Able to work collaboratively to solve problems and generate ideas in the research process
Interested in applying economic theory to empirical policy questions related to advancing the common good
